Loving him was RED

Hellooooo Ladies and Gents!  I wanted to put together a few looks for Valentine's Day and thought I would start with my favorite color, RED (:  When I get an idea in my head for a look, I COMMIT.  As soon as I knew I wanted to create Vday looks, I went to my closet to look for the strong hue.  Immediately I decided on this dress and shortly after I committed to a Hollywood / Old Glamour feel overall.  Red Lips, big curls, simple sexy heels.  I feel like red evokes confidence, sexiness, and fun.  What's your favorite color to wear for this love themed holiday?

Here I am emulating a pin-up girl, or trying to show off my newly toned Yoga arms.  You decide.

This type of dress / skirt is so fun, you just gotta twirl it.

Don't mind the Grandma legs . . .

I like the romantic feel and balance of this dress - tight up top, flowy on bottom, and short in length.

Dreaming of this Saturday when my baby is going to cook steak for us :D:D:D

Closed my eyes during the flash?  Falling asleep because I took these pictures before 7am on a workday?  Can't be sure.

Aztec Nights

On hot summer nights I tend to gravitate towards maxis.  They just look so pulled together but are light and airy at the same time.  It's funny to see how your style evolves.  Back in the day my go-to look was super tight jeans and an even tighter tank top.  I like that my style has matured into something more tasteful, but still has an edge.

Swinging Sixties

Anyone who knows me knows that I love the 50s and 60s.  Not only for the fashion but for the music and sentiment of that time.  For this reason, I am beyond ecstatic that the 60s are big in fashion for this fall.  I thought I would get a head start with this cute little number for summer.  I just love pairing flats with shift dresses.  The look is so charming to me.

Fashion Friday: Sweats

The lazy girl in me dies for this trend.  (Confession: I'm really lazy therefore dead.)  But to get away wearing sweatpants as a night out, etc. outfit, you really can't be lazy at all.

Case in point:
Dear Lord I love me some Britney, but this is her literally grabbing some sweatpants . . and wearing them out.

Now THIS is a girl that wears her sweatpants out with purpose:

I have one basic rule for rocking the sweatpants trend:

#1 DRESS IT UP.

With heels, makeup, a pretty clutch, a nice top, accessories . . you get the idea.

And for those who want to wear the trend with more athletic flair:

#2 DO NOT BE FRUMPY

Make sure that if the sweatpants are not tight, that something else is.  Or cropped.  Or showing some shoulder.  Or or . . something that shows us there is a body beneath the sweat that is going to do something other than lounge around (aka nothing).

Beauty Tuesday: Orange Lips

When it comes to orange / red orange lips . . .

Think Leighton:

Not Grandma:

All jokes aside, I stick to a few guidelines when donning an orange / red orange lip:

#1 Pick a color that is bold, looks purposeful, and pops.

As you can see from Miss Pink Tulle up above, the color is lighter, harder to distinguish, more of a mauve tone . . and just plain Grandma.  (For the sake of keeping things on topic, we won't go into her wardrobe choice at this point in time.)

I prefer a color that is a bit more red in tone and that is darker.  I feel it goes better with my skin tone - the darker color pops against my fair complexion.

#2 Keep the rest simple

Since your orange lip is already the statement . . let that be the statement.  Keep the rest of your makeup and hair simple.

#3 Pair the look with fashion-forward, modern pieces

This will keep the look on trend and from looking like you stole Granny's 1980's tube of Revlon.

I love the way this smells - fruity but not overpowering.

This stuff smells SO good and goes on super soft.

I've used these lipsticks from Maybelline before and find them to be incredibly easy to wear and long-lasting.

Citrus Squeeze

I absolutely love the vibrant color of this orange top.  It's just so happy, summer-y, and fresh!  I also like neon, but just subtle touches of it, so the fact that only the embroidered design is neon is perfect!  Wearing a lot of color isn't something that comes naturally to me (I tend to gravitate towards black and denim!) so this is me stepping out of my comfort zone (:  I'm also really diggin' separates lately overall.  Hope you all have a peaceful and happy weekend!  < 3 J
